Dr A Moorthy is a consultant Rheumatologist at busy teaching hospital at University Hospitals of Leicester, Leicester General Hospital, and Loughborough Community Hospitals. He sees private patients at Nuffield Hospital, Spire Leicester Hospitals and woodland Hospital, Kettering.
Dr Moorthy has got more than 13 years of clinical experience in Rheumatology. After qualifying in 1989, Dr Moorthy underwent a structured postgraduate training in general Internal medicine for three years. Later went on to train in Rheumatology at various Teaching hospitals in Manchester, Wrightington, Northampton and Leicester. In his later part of training he developed a special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound in Rheumatology and undergone higher training at University of Ancona, Italy under Prof W Grssi. In NHS practice Dr Moorthy run Ultrasound synovitis clinic and perform joint injections under ultrasound guidance. His special area of interest is inflammatory back pain and inflammatory arthritis. For the last two years Dr Moorthy is running Specialist Spondylo arthropathy clinic at Leicester. Patients are referred to this clinic form nearby trusts and PCT. Dr Moorthy is actively involved in Research and published his work in peer reviewed medical Journals. Dr Moorthy was an invited speaker at various rheumatology meetings nationally and Internationally. Most recently Dr Moorthy was invited to give a talk on Drugs used in Rheumatology and orthopedic surgery at European Rheumatology congress (EULAR) BERLIN in 2012. He was also invited to chair scientific sessions in national and international Rheumatology meetings.
Dr Moorthy enjoys teaching and training both under graduate and postgraduate medical students. He has been an examiner for Undergraduate examinations and post -graduate MRCP examinations conducted by Royal college of Physicians London and Edinburgh.
Dr Moorthy is very keen to raise the awareness of Rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis in General public and has conducted public education meetings and has given Live interview on various radio stations including BBC Radio Leicester. He appeared in TV Health programmes in south Asian Languages.
